dude this is the whole reason i got serato, kill two birds with one stone,
be able to get new songs without leaving my house plus i can still go on the hunt at junk show's, auction houses, thrift stores for wax
and on the production side of things, serato is a hell easy way to customise my beats, i started making tunes cause i wanted new breaks to scratch over then that evolved into sampling in my DAW chopping the samples and re-arranging em freestyle on the 12's with my own hands.
plus with tracks fully made in the DAW you can add effects, layer and manipulate live on the fly.
find it kinda relaxing to be honest |

I'm so new to this, it's crazy... but I know I can learn it super quick and probably be pretty good at it. I'm definitely getting the nano series PAD and Control... now I just have to get Torq or Tracktor...
I almost grabbed Torq a couple of months ago but took back my deposit. Two friends I have (members on the site) actually have Torq and they say it is fine. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
LOL

Torq is good enough to mess about at home with...step up to serato for stability when performing. The 150$ price tag on a used connectiv and the open system it provides is perfect for spinning your own tracks, loops. patterns and whatnot...i like the fact that I can use the connectiv hardware with other applications as well...pretty much ms pinky - there's even a pinky vst that allows you to manipulate mp3/wav/aiff/ogg samples right from within your daw. It doesn't transmit vinyl movement as midi data (sadly) but it does allow one to grab any existing sample and mangle it on a turntable AND record it during a mixdown.
I think it was this functionailty that spawned the launch of serato integration with live, something I can't really comment on because I haven't tried it...but it looks awesome. Punch out looping on the fly...that's like the holy grail of DJ'ing right there.

serato is a doddle to get to grips with and because the dj still does the mixing is why i chose that over traktor or ableton to use, no fun if the program does the mixing for you.
i simply cant afford vinyl anymore and thats the prime reason why i went digital after years of ressistance, i even had technics sldz1200's but sold them, not because they were rubbish but because i still want to use turntables in my mixes.
serato 2 beta is out for testing now which i am doing, it has some fx built into it seems ok so far, for my pennies worth serato is the best thing i bought |

serato is the reason i didnt sell my decks a few years back when i was moving around so much (travelling every 3/4 months to follow the snow seasons is a ha**le when you have a stack of records to carry) so rather then lug around wax i can lug around my laptop (its with me anyway) and the excess baggage charge at air ports has almost been eliminated (i still over pack, haha)
A.B whatta you getting the nano for ? to controle serato an trigger samples an junk ?
at the moment (and befor i saw the X! controller) i've been using my akai MPD 24.
i've got the pads set up to left deck right deck (8 pads each)
loop points, a**ign deck, and the faders and sliders are a**igned to make life easier.
although with serato 2 commin out im wondering if ill need to upgrade the controller, effects and the introduction of sample banks (version 1.9 or somthing) i've started running outta pads :(
also another reason i bought serato other then traktor or somthing, the cabling system, stantons version has a special cabling system (umm what happens if you turn upto a gig an forgot a cable, your fupped) everyone has a spare RCA :) |

basically I just want to trigger loops and sounds to my sets when I'm playing. I don't want it for production at the moment... just to tweak my shows. What do you think? Will the nano let me down?

hey i found this thread after i responded to ya message,
the nano should be fine for triggering (and fit into the space you have) i was more thinking of down the line if you wanted to use it for production, but since its just a trigger thing then the nano might be your best bet, since the key's are actually pads you'll find less fumbling and knocking wrong keys.
are you using traktor to fire of samples or you got somthing else ? i had alphabet soup for a while but that soon got ditched when serato put there sampler in :) |

Update! (wow and it is 4am right now... couldn't sleep because I'm excited about my new toys... lol)
I bought the Nano Pad and Nano Control from Korg. I've also got EZdrummerLite and Ableton 8.0.9 Intro. I'm just setting up the sound card and controllers in Ableton still so I haven't been able to even try it yet.
I'll take a picture of my setup and post it here today.

i love buying new toys, very jealous of you for that one AB.
i didn't buy anything new but i did set all my gear back up last night (finally) its only taken me 4 months to get the whole kit a**embled, i went threw just having my decks set up to packing them away and only having my production stuff out to nothing. its all sorted and serato, logic, the turntables and the guitar are now pieced together in one.
will take a photo to put up later.
aaron cant wait to hear your rundown on the nano series, actually looking forward to hearing what there actually like |

k, update! I've updated the USB driver of both midi files for more stability and to be able to play a midi device on two or more applications simultaneously. I've also installed the ASIO driver for the devices. Now they show up in Ableton properly. Downloaded pretty much off the Ableton site regarding Live Packs.
When I'm doing shows now on BlogTV (btw - I had 28 viewers on Sunday) in HQ I am able to play vinyl on both decks and trigger tracks in Ableton via the nanoKONTROL. I a**ign the first slider to the master pitch (1/100). This allows it to move ~ 3 bpms when at the 128 mark. So, Ableton and 2x vinyl decks so far. Hopefully have a nice little funky dubby deep track out soon...
